Flying Disc is a machine composed by n° 5 GATEDRYER® able to handle up to 5 m3/h of slurry with a max of 80% moisture inside. The GATEs are anchored to the main chamber , around the circumference, at 72° from each others. Most of the metallic parts in contact with the product are in AISI SS 304. The exhaust air is taken away from inside the main chamber, via an hole situated on the centre of the ceiling along with the steam.
Passing through a bags filter, the exhaust air is dedusted and let it flow clean into the atmosphere (sometimes the bags filter is substituted with a group of cyclones and a double stage washing tower).
On the bottom of the main tower the falling powder is forced to the discharging hatch by a rotating mechanical reels system. From here, via a screw, the powder i s conveyed to the loading area.

ADVANTAGES: The great advantage of this machine is his limited height (around 7 - 8 meters) and in general his small overall dimensions (inner diameter 4 m).
Another great advantage comes from the quickly separation we have between powder and hot air.
INFACT In an average Spray-dryer an organic product is sprayed in equicurrent with the hot air, and the exhaust is taken away from the main chamber only on the bottom (conical section).
That's mean that powder and hot air makes the journey from top to bottom together (long contact time).
This is main the reason why the inlet air temperature must be kept very low to avoid thermodestruction of the powder. In our case, separation take place almost instantaneously, leaving hot air + steam going through-out the ceiling while the powder fall down. Beside this, GATEs permit water cooling of the hot air distribution system, so that any particle that should stick against internal walls is safe!
